Kerzhakov Hat Trick as Russia Routs Andorra

ST. PETERSBURG -- Alexander Kerzhakov notched a hat trick as Russia routed Andorra 4-0 in its Euro 2008 Group E qualifier on Saturday.

The Sevilla striker fired the home team ahead in the eighth minute with a neat lob over Andorra keeper Koldo Alvarez, then doubled the lead eight minutes later.

Kerzhakov made it 3-0 four minutes after the break by latching on to a rebound, and substitute Dmitry Sychev scored the fourth midway through the second half.

Andorra, which was missing eight first-team players through injury and suspension, rarely threatened Russia's goal as it slumped to its sixth defeat in six qualifiers.

The Russians could easily have added a few more but were still satisfied with a comfortable victory, which moved them left them well in contention in Group E, with 14 points from six matches.

Israel also has 14 points, but has played a game more. Croatia tops the group with 16 points from six games and England lies in fourth, with 11 points from six games.

Israel made heavy weather of its game against Macedonia and will have been relieved to take home all three points.

Roberto Colautti scored the winner two minutes before half-time, sending a looping header over goalkeeper Jane Nikolovski.

Croatia was also made to work hard for its victory. Da Silva's cool strike gave it a 1-0 win against a resolute Estonian outfit, slotting past goalkeeper Mart Poom on 31 minutes.
