Ananenkov is Acting Gazprom CEO

Gazprom deputy CEO Alexander Ananenkov was appointed temporary head of the company while CEO Alexei Miller is in the hospital, Interfax reported.

Ananenkov, 55, replaces deputy CEO Andrei Kruglov, 38, as acting chief, Interfax said, citing Gazprom's press office.

Sergei Kupriyanov, Miller's spokesman, was unavailable for comment.

Interfax gave no reason for the change, except that Kruglov is at a business conference in Berlin.

No date has been set for Miller's discharge from the hospital, where he's receiving treatment for a kidney ailment, Kupriyanov said last week.

Ananenkov, who was appointed to the Gazprom board in 2002, began working in the gas industry in 1974 and graduated from the Ufa Oil Institute in 1974.

Miller, 45, was named CEO by President Vladimir Putin in 2001.
