Aeroflot Rejects Joint Bid for Alitalia

Aeroflot said it rejected an offer from Air One to jointly bid for a stake in Italian carrier Alitalia, Aeroflot deputy CEO Lev Koshlyakov said Thursday.

"We are not interested in the cooperation with Air One that has been proposed," Koshlyakov said.

Aeroflot and Air One are bidding for the Italian government's stake in Rome-based Alitalia. Prime Minister Romano Prodi's government plans to sell its 49.9 percent in July, abandoning turnaround efforts after losses in six of the last seven years. Italy's Finance Ministry postponed the deadline to present final, binding bids to July 12 from July 2.

The Russian carrier is not interested in bidding together with another airline, Koshlyakov said. He declined to give details of the Air One offer.

"Organizationally, we have little in common," Koshlyakov said. "If with Alitalia we are both network carriers, Air One is totally different, and it seemingly has different tasks."
