Aeroflot Closes Deal to Buy 5 A321s

Aeroflot will buy five Airbus A321 airliners valued at $440 million to add to its fleet in a growing market, the airline said Tuesday.

Aeroflot signed the contract with Airbus at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday, the company said in a statement. The company did not provide the price of the purchase.

The contract is worth $440 million at catalog prices, which do not include discounts that airlines may receive for multiple orders.

The airline has 27 Airbus A320-series planes in its fleet and plans to operate 55 of the model by 2010.

Also Tuesday, British engine maker Rolls-Royce said that Aeroflot had selected its Trent engines to power the airline's new fleet of 10 leased Airbus planes in a deal worth around $600 million. (Bloomberg, Reuters)
