A Perfect Troika at Tapa

MTTapa De Comida's patio is the spot for sangria on a summer afternoon.
Come summer, dining indoors can seem like a crime -- especially with such a sun-friendly cuisine as Spanish.

The recent opening of Tapa De Comida's new summer patio, therefore, has to be good news for fans of al fresco dining and Spanish food, creating the perfect balance of three dining environments in this popular restaurant.

Tapa De Comida was an instant hit when it opened a few years back. It won its fans not only due to the scarcity of Spanish eateries in Moscow, but also by offering diners a choice between the full-fledged restaurant with fancy fit-out upstairs, and the casual tapas bar on the ground floor. The tapas bar, with its low prices for both snacks and wine, is particularly well-suited to informal after-work gatherings. In both sections, the wine list is extensive and inexpensive, with bottles starting at less than 600 rubles. The only drawback was that it was all indoors -- until now.

The patio is raised, coming off the restaurant's second floor. Surrounded by trees, it is pleasantly simple and relaxed. There are little more than half a dozen tables, and it quickly fills up -- even though only the more expensive restaurant menu is offered, and not the full tapas menu.

All the same, there is a reasonable selection of things to nibble while drinking a glass of wine. A selection of smoked game, wild boar, deer and duck costs 750 rubles. Jamon with two sorts of salami and smoked beef costs 650 rubles, while jamon with melon goes for 720 rubles. An assortment of smoked salmon, tuna and cod costs 500 rubles, and a dish rarely seen in Moscow -- salmon ceviche -- goes for a reasonable 210 rubles. A selection of Spanish cheeses costs 480 rubles. And a couple of things from the tapas menu are available, including the salt-coated spicy jalapenos (190 rubles).

Besides the aforementioned excellent selection of wines, there is extremely tasty sangria (600 rubles for a one-liter carafe). It's not listed on the menu, but they'll bring it if you ask.
