What to Do: Visit the Travel Fair

As the summer vacation season rolls around, the Seventh Moscow International Tourism Fair gives travelers the chance to peruse possible destinations and meet travel experts.

The annual fair, running Thursday to Sunday at Gostiny Dvor, is to feature more than 1,050 exhibitors, including airlines, travel agencies, hotels, resorts and representatives of various countries, press service head Dmitry Shultsev said.

With a larger exhibition space, the fair, which attracted 70,000 people last year, is expected to draw more participants this year. Federal tourism board administrators and travel company representatives from 80 of 87 regions are to be present, and visitors from 47 countries are expected.

The tourism fair is organized by Moscow's Tourism Committee. Mayor Yury Luzhkov is to open the four-day event to tunes played by the presidential orchestra.

Highlights are to include presentations by Bulgaria, Iceland, Tanzania, Vietnam, Mongolia, the Crimea, Sakha and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Perhaps not as pertinent to travel, but equally delectable, is the Festival of Chocolate. On Sunday, in honor of the Year of the Child, confectioners and chocolatiers plan to create sweet masterpieces on the theme of children.
