What to Do: Feast at the Food Fair

Unknown
From New Delhi, Tokyo and Manila with love: An array of Asian delicacies is to be on sale at a food fair organized by the Asia-Pacific Women's Group and GlavUpDK this Saturday.

Thirteen countries are to be represented, including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and newcomer Mongolia. Guests can chow down on samosas, biryani and kebabs.

Pakistan is to send pashmina shawls and embroidery. Japan is planning to serve sushi, and might field porcelain like last year. Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but if you can't afford one, Thailand and the Philippines will be offering semi-precious stones.

Profits from the food fair will go to children of mothers in Russian prisons, as well as orphanages.

"We want to show our solidarity with and friendship to the host country by helping," said Naheed Kazi, wife of Pakistan's ambassador. "Conditions aren't bad, but a lot needs to be done."

Last year 80,000 rubles was raised for a Moscow region detention center.

10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Sat., May 26, GlavUpDK Cultural Center, 5/2 Ul. Ulofa Palme, M. Universitet, 50 rubles.
