Suspect Held in Multiple Homicide

Moscow regional police have detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of killing four people last month in a possible contract hit gone wrong.

The suspect, who was not identified, was detained in the Moscow region town of Krasnogorsk on Thursday, a police official said Friday.

"The reasons for the crime are now being determined, " the official said, Interfax reported.

The official said the suspect had a prior conviction but did not specify for what crime.

The quadruple homicide shocked the town of Balashikha, 25 kilometers east of Moscow. The four people, including a 70-year-old woman, were shot dead in the stairwell of an apartment building on April 23.

Investigators have said they believe the killer might have been sent to carry out a contract hit and "simply knocked on the wrong door."
