Spartak Holds CSKA, Zenit Misses a Chance

Spartak Moscow stayed three points clear of champion and city rival CSKA at the top of the Premier League after their 1-1 draw, but Zenit St. Petersburg failed to capitalize on its rivals' dropped points, with a 1-1 draw leaving it level on points with CSKA.

CSKA will be ruing a host of chances that went begging as it failed to put away the visiting side after taking an early lead through Serbia midfielder Milos Krasic.

Krasic fired CSKA ahead with a delightful piece of individual skill in the 14th minute and the strike was the catalyst for a sustained period of pressure from Vladimir Gazayev's men as they looked to put the game beyond their rival's reach. But CSKA couldn't find the killer blow, and was made to play for its profligacy when Vladimir Bystrov equalized against the run of play mid-way through the second half.

Zenit, the bookies' preseason favorite, remained level on points with CSKA, after a Pavel Pogrebniyak header salvaged a point for Dick Advocaats' side, after Kuban had taken a surprise lead through Latvian forward Juris Laizans.

Spartak Nalchik continued to demonstrate that last season's heroics weren't a flash in the pan as it humbled fourth-placed FK Moscow, albeit through a Roman Hubnik own-goal just after the hour. The 1-0 defeat saw Moscow fall four points off the lead.

Tom has had a poor start to the season and desperately needed the three points it grabbed at Dynamo. A single goal in the first half was enough to see off the disappointing home side.

In other games, Rubin beat Amkar 1-0 to move out of the relegation zone, Lokomotiv beat bottom-club Rostov 2-0, Khimki and Saturn shared a goalless draw and Krylya Sovietov beat Luch-Energia 3-0.
