Do Ya Wanna Rock?

MTJam Session has a mural of rock star caricatures and concerts on screen.
Jam Session is like a low-cal version of Hard Rock Cafe. It's not as large, not as central and not as expensive.

It may be a modest establishment, but Jam Session does its rock 'n' roll theme fairly well, and its location is on the green and pleasant Ulitsa Kosygina. The first of the bar's two rooms features large windows that look out across Kosygina, but the real novelty here is on the wall opposite the windows -- huge caricatures of various rock and pop stars. Adding a little disco flair are seven mirror balls, while plasma screens show rock concerts. The cartoonesque interior is clad in redbrick, which is matched by comfy red leather booths.

As seems compulsory in such themed establishments, the menu includes many dishes with cutesy names. Salads include the "Punk-Rock" chicken fillet, Bulgarian pepper and pineapple under a cream sauce with sesame seeds served in half a pineapple (330 rubles), "Reef 'n' Roll" prawns, calamari, octopus and lettuce with anchovy sauce (200 rubles) and the "Hard Rock" lettuce, bacon, dor blu cheese, chicken, tomato and olives under a sauce of lemon mayonnaise and Tabasco (210 rubles). The grilled chicken wings (150 rubles) are called "Fan Club" and a shashlik of tiger prawns marinated in a champagne and ginger sauce (210 rubles) is referred to as the "Bikini Atoll." There are three kinds of sandwiches, which strangely are free of funny names (cheese 80 rubles, chicken 80 rubles and tuna 120 rubles) and a small selection of vegetarian dishes, such as "Gourmet Ozzi" vegetable shashlik (230 rubles) and "Boom Box" vegetable grill (130 rubles).

Beers on tap include Jam Session's own house beer for 100 rubles a half-liter, as well as Hoegaarden (170 rubles for a half-liter) and Boddington's (160 rubles for a half-liter). Cocktails range from 130 to 300 rubles and include the house cocktail "Jam" (210 rubles), the ingredients of which are "top secret."
