Diner Shot Dead in PirO.G.I. Cafe

Unidentified assailants gunned down a customer at one of the popular PirO.G.I. cafes in central Moscow in what police said was likely an ordinary argument that turned deadly.

A woman who was dining with the victim was also injured in the shooting, which occurred at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the PirO.G.I. cafe at 12 Ulitsa Bolshaya Dmitrovka, near the Teatralnaya metro station. Witnesses said three dark-skinned assailants were involved in the killing and that they fled in a Mazda car, a police official told RIA-Novosti.

Police and prosecutors could not be reached for comment Tuesday. A woman who answered the phone at PirO.G.I. said the restaurant was working as usual. She said no one was available to comment on the shooting.

The ultranationalist Movement Against Illegal Immigration identified the victim as Yevgeny Kuznetsov, co-founder of the Vikings fan club for the Lokomotiv Moscow football team. The group often rushes to the defense of ethnic Russians believed to have been victimized as dark-skinned minorities.
