Favorite destination

"Ecuador. I love the people and the rivers. I have been to every country in South America except Uruguay, and I consider Ecuador to be a very safe place and good for whitewater sports. If you are traveling with children, it is a must to visit the Galapagos Islands, where you will find endemic birds and the famous big turtles. Hotels and food are good, not to mention the national drink, aguardiente, which resembles Russian samogon, or moonshine."

Favorite hotel

"JW Marriott Quito -- the unparalleled service anticipating your every need and the culinary delights of exquisite South American cuisine are exclusively designed to exceed expectations. I stayed only one day and was impressed.

"Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel -- slightly expensive, but due to the unique combination of location, personalized service and amazing French cuisine, it is worth it."

Favorite restaurant

"I cannot say that I love a particular restaurant. In each country I try to find something local that is not just for tourists, and the main draw for me is a lot of local people in the evening. But my favorite dish would be ukha prepared from the fish caught at Putorana Plateau, Krasnoyarsk region, or made from lukanani caught in the mighty Essequibo river in Guyana, South America. Camping food is what I like most of all."

Best airport

"Singapore -- I like the services, design and duty free."

Which airline has the best food?

"The Asian airlines are the best -- Singapore, Cathay Pacific, Thai -- and Emirates. Due to the fact that I have an Aeroflot bonus card, I often fly by this carrier and now it can compete with many airlines. You cannot call it the 'chicken airline' anymore. The first class in Aeroflot is just excellent."

What did you read/do on your last flight?

"I listened to the audio book 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro' by Ernest Hemingway when I was flying from Italy, and once again understood that some books you need to re-read when you've become older. Great novel."

What do you always take with you when you travel?

"My set of talismans, an icon of St. Nikolai who is the patron saint of travelers and, like a real Russian, still a lot of dollar cash, especially if I am traveling to South America."
