Ukrainian Detained in Girls' Deaths

A Ukrainian citizen has been detained on suspicion of strangling two teenage girls to death and dumping their bodies in a forest outside Moscow, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.

The bodies of the girls, aged 16 and 17, were discovered at around noon Tuesday in a forest outside of Sergiyev Posad, 70 kilometers northeast of Moscow, an Interior Ministry source told Regnum.ru.

The mother of one of the victims, who were both 10th graders at School No. 4 in Sergiyev Posad, called police Saturday and said her daughter had left home and not returned, a source told Interfax. Later that day, the mother of the other victim called police with a similar report, the source said.

Police detained a 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen Tuesday evening on suspicion of killing the girls, and investigators were questioning him Wednesday, RIA-Novosti reported.
