The winners of the fourth Lavrovy List restaurant awards were announced on March 24. A general council of 50 noteworthy people joined restaurant critics and the organizing committee to declare the following winners: opening of the year -- Indus; best restaurant of 2006 -- Bon; best restaurant promotion -- guest chef Pierre Gagnaire at Gallery; restaurant critics' prize -- Anatoly Komm; restaurant legend -- Tsarskaya Okhota.

Pakistani restaurant Gandhara has a new chef, and he has brought with him a new menu. The Pakistani chef, Rasheed Khan, has previously worked as head chef at the U.S. General Consulate in Karachi and most recently at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. Some of the new dishes include Seafood Fantasy (pictured) -- scallops, jumbo prawns and pan-fried dorado with fresh fennel, asparagus, baby carrot, basil and sun-dried-tomato sauce (1,300 rubles) and zucchini with baingan ka Bharta -- eggplant grilled and braised with chopped tomatoes and onions served on crispy zucchini (500 rubles).

Vodka Bar, naturally better known for its vodka, has introduced a breakfast menu. The new menu seems aimed more at night owls rather than at early birds, given that it kicks off at 4 a.m. and runs through till 7 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday morning. The menu features three varieties of porridge (rice, oats and grain, all 70 rubles), three varieties of omelet (mushroom, bacon and onion 70 rubles, cheese and tomato or cheese and mushroom, both 115 rubles), three different varieties of fried eggs (cheese 110 rubles, cheese and tomato 110 rubles, cheese and mushroom 120 rubles), syrniki cheese fritters with sultanas and sour cream (90 rubles) and stuffed blini with jam (90 rubles).

Never standing still, Chinese restaurant Tan has introduced yet more new offers. The menu has a new spring selection, which includes such dishes as king prawns with pineapple served with a fresh berry sauce (750 rubles), smoked calamari with spicy orange (790 rubles) and rice noodles with seafood and green curry (490 rubles). As well a new spring menu, Tan now has a new theatrical tea ceremony, led by a tea master trained at the Shaolin Monastery in China.
