Local restaurants are getting into the spirit of the World Hockey Championship -- especially the more manly establishments. Running until the end of the championship on May 13, the Dymov No. 1 grill and beerhouse chain is showing the matches on the restaurants' numerous screens. The kitchen is also taking part, offering a special sausage selection suitable for six spectators. The assorted plate includes Venetian-style, Munich-style, four-pepper, cheese-and-poppy-seed, lamb and miniature truffle sausages, all in sufficient quantities for six people to try every variety. The selection comes with sauerkraut, boiled potatoes several mustards and sauces and costs 1,950 rubles.

Also marking the World Hockey Championship is another meaty eatery. For the duration of the championship, the Goodman steakhouse chain is offering a "guest steak," the T-Bone Champion. The 650-gram T-bone steak sells for 1,480 rubles and the sommelier has specially chosen an Italian red to go with it, Formulae Barone Ricasoli 2004.

Another restaurant introducing a new dish to its menu is Nedalny Vostok. The dish is dim sum and comes in six varieties; each serving comes with six of the dumplings for 750 rubles. On the menu are green dim sum with pork, green onion and Chinese cabbage; green dim sum with chicken and spinach; and red dim sum with lamb and chicken broth. Seafood fillings are prawn, crab, scallop and green onion; prawn and asparagus; and crab with cilantro and chestnut.

The darling of the expat scene, Scandinavia (pictured) has opened its summer patio. Operating for its 11th season, the outdoor cafe is once again ready to receive those looking for that tried-and-tested dining experience.

Mio DJ Cafe has introduced its own variety of Japan's widely loved bento box. The "Quick Lunch" takeout boxed sets are made to order in 10 minutes and have a shelf life of three hours. Two varieties are available: the "Tokyo" with 12 rolls and four pieces of sushi, and the "Arigato" with nine rolls and three pieces of sushi. Both sets cost 200 rubles and can be pre-ordered by telephone.
