Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya


Hotels&Resorts, one of the United States' biggest independent hotel management companies, has announced the appointment of Joerg Beginen as general manager of the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya hotel, the first Hilton hotel to open in Russia. The hotel is under the management of Interstate Hotels&Resorts, which also operates three Marriott hotels and two Holiday Inn hotels in Moscow.

Born in June 1966 in Koblenz, Germany, Beginen graduated from vocational college in Koblenz with hotel management qualifications.

He worked at the Moscow Marriott Tverskaya as general manager from January 2003. His professional background includes work at the Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten hotel in Munich and the Ritz Carlton hotel in Boston. He came to Moscow in 1999 as director of food & beverage at the Marriott Grand hotel and later was appointed director of operations there.

Nicolas Kipper

Hotels&Resorts has also announced the appointment of Nicolas Kipper as general manager of the Marriott Moscow Tverskaya hotel.

Born in October 1968 in Strasbourg, France, Kipper graduated from the University of Strasbourg in 1990 with a master's degree in hotel and catering business.

He held the position of director of operations at the Moscow Marriott Grand hotel from February 2004. Prior to coming to Moscow, Kipper spent 14 years working in numerous locations around the world with Hyatt including Morocco, Poland, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, Yugoslavia and Mexico.


Yevgeny Timofeyev

International law firm Salans has announced the appointment of two new partners to co-head its Russian tax group: Yevgeny Timofeyev and Alexei Panich.

Timofeyev is a member of the board of the Russian Tax Law Association and of the Expert Council on Tax Legislation of the State Duma Budget Committee. Born in 1969, he graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1994 and earned an MBA from London Business School in 2001. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as an analyst at Kommersant daily newspaper and the Kommersant and Dengi weeklies. In 1995 he became legal advisor to Kommersant Publishing House, and from 1996 to 1999 he was general counsel there. From 2001 to 2002, Timofeyev was a manager with Ernst & Young's Moscow tax practice. In 2003 he founded Timothy's, a provider of structured information on court precedents in tax and other areas, and ran that business until early 2006 when he joined Salans as of counsel.

Alexei Panich
Panich is a leading tax litigation specialist who won more than 40 major litigations in Russia in 2006, including two in the High Arbitration Court. Born in 1972, he graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Law where he specialized in civil law and litigation. From 1996 to 2000 he worked as a senior tax consultant at KPMG. He joined Salans in 2001 as an associate. In 2002 he was admitted as an advocate in the Russian Federation. Panich has significant experience in tax, customs and civil litigation as well as in advising on complex Russian and international taxation matters affecting activities of both foreign investors and national Russian companies.
