Russia Davis Cup Squad Announced

Davis Cup champion Russia has recalled Nikolai Davydenko and Mikhail Youzhny for next month's quarterfinal against France in Moscow.

Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev, who rested world No. 4 Davydenko and 17th-ranked Youzhny for the first round tie in Chile, also included Marat Safin and Igor Andreyev for the April 6-8 clash on clay at the Luzhniki arena.

It will be the third quarterfinal encounter between the two nations at the Davis Cup in the last three years. Russia won both previous quarterfinals as well as the 2002 final in Paris.

With both Davydenko and Youzhny missing last month's clash against Chile, Andreyev emerged as an unlikely hero for Russia, winning both his singles matches on clay to lead the team to a 3-2 victory over the South Americans.

"Now, we have all our top players available, which is good news," said Tarpishchev, who also named world No. 21 Dmitry Tursunov and teenager Yevgeny Korolyov as alternates.
