For MTAnnette Loftus
Annette Loftus, founder of Aspera Explorations travel company:

Favorite destination

"Madagascar -- there is an incredible diversity of landscapes, nature and unique culture. ... Added bonuses are friendly people, a few lovely boutique hotels, tasty food and great beaches."

Favorite hotel worldwide

"Four Seasons in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is funny to say about the Four Seasons, but in a city packed with value-priced hotels, this is the best value for money. They always exceed the expectations of our clients with discreet but nonstop service, incredible rooms and decadent spa treatments. Close second would be the Hacienda Uayamon tucked away in the jungles of the Yucatan where you can explore Mayan ruins without the throngs of tourists from Cancun."

Favorite restaurant worldwide

"Corte Sconta in Venice -- they have an amazing seafood-tasting menu paired with local Prosecco to be followed by the best zabaglione in the world. In a city plagued with tourist trap restaurants, Corte Sconta never fails to delight."

Best airport

"Hong Kong. I couldn't stop looking at the ceiling and touring the exhibit of the ambitious construction project, which involved reclaiming an island from the sea (although I missed the rush of landing in the middle of the city with the old airport). Bangkok is a close second because you can always get a massage and they have great bookstores."

Best airline food

"Lately, Thai Airways -- they always have something edible in tourist class and the first class is really excellent."

What did you read or do on your last flight?

"I started 'The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream' by Barack Obama and got distracted by 'Close to Shore' by Michael Capuzzo, which documents a series of great white shark attacks on the New Jersey coastline in 1916."

What do you always take with you when you travel?

"My Toughbook computer. When I am not using it for work, music or showing movies, it doubles as a weapon."
