A tower crane at a construction site in St. Petersburg fell on a nearby apartment building Tuesday, killing three people and injuring three more, Interfax reported.

The dead included a one-year-old baby, a 65-year-old woman and a man who had not been identified as of Tuesday evening. The names of the victims were not made public.

Three people, including the crane operator, were injured when the crane fell on a 12-story apartment building on Kamyshovaya Ulitsa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko, who inspected the site of the accident, said: "The construction company was obviously at fault and will have to compensate the city for all expenditures," Interfax reported.

Matviyenko said six apartments elsewhere in the city would be made available to residents in the affected building whose apartments suffered most in the accident. All residents whose homes were damaged will receive new apartments, she said.

Shamsutdin Dagirov, an Emergency Situations Ministry official, told Interfax that there was no risk that the apartment building would collapse.
