Putin's Notes Publicized

The tabloid newspaper Tvoi Den has published photos of the notes that President Vladimir Putin wrote for his annual Kremlin news conference.

Tvoi Den had a photographer take close-up pictures of the president during last Thursday's marathon news conference. Later, editors noticed that Putin's notes were visible in the pictures, editor Timur Marder said. Among the notes was the Russian translation of a verse from Omar Khayyam's "The Rubaiyat."

Asked how he relaxed and dealt with bad moods, Putin said he read "The Rubaiyat," a gift from his wife, Lyudmila.

Tvoi Den reported the lines had been written before the news conference. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that was unlikely. Peskov said Putin had no notebook when he came to the news conference, adding that a blank pad is always provided for him at such events.
