What to Do: Celebrate 10 Years

Through to Friday, the Uzbek restaurant Beloye Solntse Pustyni is celebrating its 10th birthday. One of Moscow's first thematic restaurants, over the course of the last decade it has been entertaining guests with its cinematographic interior based on the 1970 cult Soviet "Ostern" film of the same name.

As part of the birthday program, every evening diners can expect appearances by the film's characters. Sukhov is the host, Petrukha is to be breakdancing, Vereshchagin treating guests to caviar and moonshine and Matveyevna -- to samsa. Deejay Starets is to play the movie's soundtrack, songs from the film and other modern Eastern-themed tracks.

The entertainment program includes a costume show with the characters performing a modern plot. Also on the bill is Abdullah's harem performing a national dance. There are to be numerous competitions and auctions, prizes and gifts as well as lamb cooked whole on the spit, a hookah from fresh watermelons, a cake and fireworks.
