Hilton Planning to Develop Perm's Plaza Olympia

Hilton Hotel Group plans to redevelop the Plaza Olympia hotel in Perm with Hotels of Ural, the hotel company said in a statement earlier this month.

The hotel is scheduled to open late 2008 as the mid-priced Hilton Garden Inn Perm, the agency said. "Russia is one of our key strategic development markets and there exists a huge potential for hotel growth in key cities across the country," Wolfgang Neumann, president of Hilton International in Europe and Africa, said in a statement.

"In Perm there are no internationally branded hotels and just 600 available rooms, so it is clear to us that quality accommodation is in short supply. We believe that the ever-popular Hilton Garden Inn brand is the perfect fit to meet demand in this market," Neumann said.

Hilton's first foray into the country's leisure market, however, will be in the capital, with the opening in March of the 275-room Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya. Hilton sealed a long-term franchise agreement with the owner of the hotel, Sadko Hotel, who has engaged Interstate Management Services to operate the outlet.

The group recently announced plans to develop around 50 hotels under a number of different brands across the country.

The 104-room Hilton Garden Inn Perm will be centrally located in the Siberian city and will include 250 square meters of conference and meeting facilities, a business center and parking.

"Bringing the Hilton Garden Inn brand to Russia is very exciting because it shows that hotel guests are looking for a new kind of lodging option, whether traveling for business or leisure," said Adrian Kurre, senior vice president of brand management for the Hilton Garden Inn brand.
