Officials Linked to Putin Rallies

Officials have helped organize a wave of rallies calling for Vladimir Putin to stay on as president after his second term ends next year, according to two documents obtained by Reuters on Monday.

A telegraph from railroad bosses in Novosibirsk ordered their departments to send a certain number of workers and pensioners to a rally at noon on Oct. 27. Passenger Carriage Depot No. 7, for example, had to ensure that at least 80 people turned out.

A letter from the head of the education agency in Tver told students and teachers from 55 schools to support a rally held there on Oct. 24. The head of the education agency and the local railway bosses could not be reached for comment Monday.
