Graft Allegations in Audit Chamber

Former Chechen Prime Minister Sergei Abramov was suspended Monday from the Audit Chamber after three of his subordinates were accused of corruption.

The Audit Chamber's board also recommended that State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, who oversees the budgetary watchdog, dismiss Abramov from his duties, reported.

Three of Abramov's subordinates -- Yury Gaidukov, Sergei Klimantov and Vasily Koryagin -- were detained last week on charges of extorting bribes to change audits conducted by them or their colleagues.

Prosecutors said Gaidukov tried to exhort a bribe of 7 million euros from a Moscow region-based rocket engine maker, Scientific Production Association.

Klimantov and Koryagin are suspected of having tried to extort $150,000 from a private company, said.
