320 Sites Allocated to Hotels

Itar-TassDeputy Mayor Iosif Ordzhonikidze
Moscow city government has designated 320 spaces for hotel construction, Deputy Mayor Iosif Ordzhonikidze said Friday, RIA-Novosti reported.

As part of the project, a number of old hotels and former hostels will be converted into two-star hotels, Ordzhonikidze said.

Five hundred hectares will be set aside for the hotel-building program and a map detailing the sites for future construction will be released by the end of the month.

The project should ensure the addition of between 100,000 to 120,000 new hotel places, while the city's planned number of hotels to be built has gone down from 300 to around 200.

Plans for hotel development in the city took a blow earlier on Jan. 22 after a proposed partnership between Nafta-Moskva and the city government to control some of the city's leading hotels collapsed after the most attractive assets were withdrawn from the package.
