Former Slavneft Exec Disappears

Prosecutors on Thursday opened a criminal investigation into the suspected kidnapping of Moscow businessman Yury Bushev, a former financial director at oil major Slavneft, Interfax reported.

Bushev disappeared from his home in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region the night of Aug. 5 after leaving in his car with an unidentified man, Interfax reported, citing information from the Odintsovo prosecutors' office.

When he failed to return and his security guards discovered his empty Toyota, they informed police, the news agency said. A spokesman for Slavneft, however, denied that Bushev had ever worked for the oil major.

Bushev, who in recent years ran his own business, survived an assassination attempt in 1998 when he was shot outside his home on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, the news agency said.

His wife and business partner, Galina Perepelkina, was shot dead on Bolshaya Bronnaya in 2001.
