The Bosnian State Court ordered on Friday that Dragan Zelenovic be transferred to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.
Zelenovic, a former military police officer, has been a fugitive since his 1996 indictment for alleged crimes against humanity during the 1992 Bosnian Serb assault on his hometown of Foca, in eastern Bosnia. Russia handed him over to Bosnian authorities Thursday.
Zelenovic had lived in Khanty-Mansiisk for several years under an assumed name and had worked in the construction industry. The UN war-crimes tribunal in The Hague issued an international arrest warrant and Russian authorities jailed Zelenovic in August 2005. Siberian prosecutors had immediately opened a criminal case against Zelenovic on charges of illegal border crossing and passport forgery. But it took Russian authorities more than nine months to extradite Zelenovic to Bosnia.
