Embassies Hold Their 10th Dinner and Ball

The Moscow International Women's Club is holding its 10th annual Embassies of the World Dinner and Ball on Friday, Feb. 10.

Guests begin the evening with a formal dinner at one of 20 embassies around Moscow, each hosting from 10 to 20 party-goers.

Organizers tell attendees only a few days beforehand where they will be dining.

This year, embassies that have offered to take part include those of Brazil, Iceland, Sri Lanka and the United States. In the past, many embassies have served luxurious selections of national specialities.

After dinner, guests will travel to the Bulgarian Embassy for the ball, which this year has the theme "Return to Enchantment."

"This theme is a celebration of our 10th anniversary," said Judy Crump, one of the ball's organizers.

"There will hopefully be footmen in period costume to welcome guests," Crump said. "The ballroom in the Bulgarian Embassy is very beautiful, with a fireplace, large chandeliers and a wooden ceiling."

Music at the ball will be provided by rock band Tony Watkins and the Smokebreakers.

The IWC expects about 750 people to attend the ball and will donate all proceeds to charity.

A ticket for both parts of the evening costs $200, or $100 for the ball only.

Tickets are likely to be sold out by the end of the week, organizers said.
