The first significant snowfall of the winter hit Moscow Sunday night.

Residents of the Vorobyovy Gory area south of the city center woke to find 10 centimeters of snow on the ground, the largest amount recorded in the city, said Tatyana Pozdnyakova of the Federal Meteorological Service.

The smallest snowfall occurred in the northern district of Tushino.

The snow caused little disruption to traffic and air travel. Flights in and out of Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports had not experienced any delays as of mid-afternoon Monday.

"This kind of weather is no big deal for an airport like Domodedovo," said a spokeswoman for the airport, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"This is all usual for this time of year," Pozdnyakova said, adding that sub-freezing daytime temperatures were expected for the weekend. "Winter is here," she said.
