Anti-Putin Youth Protest Banned

At least five activists of the My, or, in English, We, democratic youth movement were briefly detained in Moscow on Sunday afternoon after holding a protest that the authorities had banned near the Kitai-Gorod metro station, Interfax reported Sunday.

My leader Roman Dobrokhotov told Ekho Moskvy radio that the protest was banned over plans to call for President Vladimir Putin to resign.

An unnamed city official, however, said the request to hold the protest was denied "because it was too vague in describing the protest's activities," Interfax reported.

Following the ban, My supporters showed up for a silent protest, without posters or speeches. Some of those who showed up were detained and released 35 minutes later, after giving written explanations to the police.
