Bosnian Serb Fugitive Detained in Russia

A Bosnian Serb paramilitary leader who is wanted by the United Nations war crimes tribunal in connection with the rape and torture of dozens of women during the 1992-95 Bosnian war has been arrested in Russia, Bosnian Serb news agency SRNA said Thursday, Reuters reported.

Russian police detained Dragan Zelenovic, 44, on Wednesday, SNRA said, without specifying where his arrest was took place, Reuters reported Thursday.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, based in The Hague, has charged Zelenovic with the rape and torture of Muslim women, including a 15-year-old girl, in the town of Foca during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Neither the Foreign Ministry nor Interpol's Moscow branch could confirm the report Thursday, and both declined to comment.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Ambassador Enver Halilovic said late Thursday that he was aware of the report but could not confirm its veracity.
