Gazprom Eyes Israel

MOSCOW (MT) -- Gazprom is in talks with Israel about building facilities to liquify natural gas, which can then be exported to the United States, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported Tuesday, Agence France Presse reported.

The daily said Gazprom approached former National Infrastructure Minister Eliezer Sandberg about the facility shortly before he left office in November.

Sandberg then instructed his ministry to locate an appropriate site on the Israeli coast that would handle around 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year through a marine pipeline from Turkey, AFP said.

Banana Buy in Ecuador

MOSCOW (Prime-Tass) -- St. Petersburg-based fruit and vegetable importer JFC International has bought a banana plantation in Ecuador for $432,000, Vedomosti reported Tuesday, citing JFC president Vladimir Kekhman.

Kekhman told Vedomosti that his company had bought the Dona Laura plantation late last year.

The 36-hectare plantation is to become a testing site for the company to grow a new type of banana, the Meristemo, the paper said.
