Chechens Celebrate Kadyrov's First Son

A first son was born to Chechen First Deputy Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov early Tuesday, and the Chechen government celebrated by taking a day off work, Interfax reported.

Kadyrov, 29, named the boy Akhmad after his late father, the Chechen president who was assassinated last year.

"We express our certainty that possession of the name Kadyrov will allow this little person to grow up to be a respectable member of Chechen society," the Chechen State Council said in congratulatory telegram.

Kadyrov already has four daughters.

Officials took Tuesday off work, and ordinary Chechens will get to stay home Wednesday, Kadyrov's spokesman said.

Many Chechens complained that celebratory gunfire of forces loyal to Kadyrov kept them awake overnight. "It was horrible, I thought we were being attacked," said Zura Dudayeva, a Grozny resident.
