British Women's Club Family Activities

Parents of restless and bored children: Do not despair. The British Women's Club Family Network runs regular activities to keep them occupied, and is open to the families of British passport holders.

For children up to 5, a playgroup meets every Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at rotating locations around the city. And on Thursday the group organizes swimming sessions for toddlers in the British Embassy pool, from 10 to 12 a.m. There is a one-time insurance charge of 1,400 rubles.

Older children can stay in touch via an e-mail list, and in the past have independently arranged trips to museums and the Krasny Oktyabr chocolate factory.

The family network also holds evenings for parents. "It's not just the kids who have nothing to do," said Harriet Kalinin, the group coordinator. The next event will take place at the Coconuts nightclub.

Throughout the year there are a number of special events, including quarterly family brunches and a Christmas party.

Newcomers who wish to attend should join the British Women's Club, which costs 700 rubles per year. New members receive regular e-mail updates and a kids' guide to Moscow.
