Journalist Attacked

A correspondent for U.S.-funded Radio Liberty says she was beaten by unknown assailants and believes the attack was related to her work, Interfax reported.

Yelena Rogachyova said she was beaten in the city of Yoshkar-Ola last Friday, Interfax reported Sunday. She said her attackers beat her up and threatened to kill her if she told anymore about the attack.

Rogachyova said she did not report the attack to the police because she did not get a good look at her assailants and does not believe they could be found. Officials at Prague-based Radio Liberty and its Moscow office could not be reached for comment.

Rogachyova did not discuss her injuries in detail. She said she can walk unaided but suggested her face was temporarily disfigured, saying she avoids looking in the mirror.
