Putin Vows to 'Confer' With Fradkov

President Vladimir Putin on Saturday promised to take care of Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov's veiled threat to reshuffle the Cabinet.

"We will confer with him," Putin said with a smile during a meeting with Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin in the Kremlin, Interfax reported.

During Thursday's Cabinet meeting, Fradkov complained that planners in the Finance Ministry and Economic Development and Trade Ministry were too pessimistic in their macroeconomic forecasts.

"I have recurring thoughts about rotating the Cabinet members," Fradkov said. His remarks highlighted disagreements among Cabinet members over the government's plans to fulfill Putin's goal of doubling GDP in a decade.

After the meeting, Kudrin said that the Cabinet had "screwed up" in carrying out key reforms.

When the finance minister presented him with the draft budget on Saturday, Putin said Kudrin spoke in a voice good enough for him to serve in the Army.
