EBRD Triples Earnings LONDON (Bloomberg) -- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said earnings more than tripled as the weaker dollar helped it fund a record number of projects. The EBRD said 2003 net income rose to 378.2 million euros ($461 million) from 108.1 million euros, as it signed contracts to help fund 119 projects worth 3.7 billion euros, ranging from aircraft making in Russia to traffic management in Lithuania. Its largest single outlay was in helping to improve Russia's roads, a 230 million euro investment. About 30 percent of the EBRD's assets last year were in Russia, making the country the biggest recipient of the bank's money. The bank, which makes most of its investments in dollars, invested 5.4 percent less in 2003 than a year earlier as the dollar weakened, it said in a statement. Profit rose as the London-based bank earned more from equity investments and its treasury activities, and set aside less for loans that weren't performing, it said.

Fire Destroys Arbitration Court Documents

A fire swept through the Moscow Arbitration Court late Wednesday and early Thursday, consuming 1,500 square meters of office and archive space and damaging the roof of the building.
