Lokomotiv Tops Russian Table

Defending champion CSKA Moscow lost the lead in Russia's title race after being held to a 0-0 draw by city rival Dynamo in a Premier League derby on Monday.

Lokomotiv, champion in 2002, leapfrogged CSKA at the top of the standings by beating Torpedo 3-1 in another heated Moscow derby.

The railway side has 58 points from 29 matches and leads CSKA by a point with just one round of matches left.

Zenit St. Petersburg, last year's runner-up, lost any chance of capturing its first league title since 1984 after crashing to a 3-2 defeat at home to mid-table FK Moscow.

The championship will be decided on Friday, the last day of the league season, when Lokomotiv travels to Yaroslavl to take on Shinnik and CSKA meets city neighbor FK Moscow.

Zenit, which has 53 points -- the same as Krylya Sovietov Samara, which beat bottom side Rotor Volgograd 1-0, can only secure third place if it beats the already relegated Rotor.

Torpedo, which remains on 51 points after losing to Lokomotiv, faces 12th-placed Rostov, who avoided the drop after edging Rubin Kazan 1-0.

The battle is just as fierce the bottom of the table, where Kuban Krasnodar kept alive its slim hopes of remaining in the top flight with a 1-0 home win over Shinnik.

Meanwhile Dynamo, despite keeping the powerful CSKA strikers at bay, dropped two places to 14th and is now in danger of being relegated, lying just three points above 15th-placed Kuban.
