CSKA Tops Samara in Home Win

CSKA Moscow rebounded from last week's defeat by bottom club Torpedo-Mettalurg Moscow to earn a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over Krylya Sovietov Samara in a Russian Premier League match Sunday.

The win extended the army side's lead at the top of the table to seven points over Rubin Kazan and Saturn Ren-TV, who both have 40 points from 22 matches.

Croatia forward Ivica Olic, Russia's most expensive import after being acquired for $5.73 million from Dinamo Zagreb last month, scored the first goal in the 33rd minute and set up Rolan Gusev's strike 20 minutes later.

In between CSKA captain Sergei Semak scored the second with a bicycle kick just before the break after a pinpoint cross by Gusev.

The win also provided timely relief for embattled coach Valery Gazzayev, who quit as Russia boss following a lackluster 2-1 defeat by Israel in Wednesday's friendly in Moscow.

Dynamo Moscow beat Rotor Volgograd 1-0 thanks to a 90th-minute strike by Dmitry Bulykin, its second successive last-minute win after edging city rivals Spartak 3-2 in last week's derby.

It was Bulykin's ninth goal of the season, and he joined Rubin's Brazilian striker Rony as the Premier League's top scorer.
