Bolton Discusses Nonproliferation, Bush

U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton held negotiations Monday with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak on nonproliferation issues.

He was also expected to meet with Nuclear Power Minister Alexander Rumyantsev during the trip, a U.S. Embassy spokeswoman said.

Emerging from the Foreign Ministry building, Bolton said he and Kislyak had exchanged opinions on a wide range of issues, including controls on weapon proliferation, Russia's help to Iran in building a nuclear reactor, North Korea's nuclear ambitions and international security concerns, Interfax reported.

They also discussed President Vladimir Putin's planned visit to the United States for a summit with U.S. President George W. Bush next month.

Bolton's visit comes just before six-nation talks on North Korea. Bolton will not attend following Pyongyang's refusal to accept him after he called leader Kim Jong Il a "tyrannical dictator."
