LEGSI ratings

Russia's state stability dropped three points in July after hitting its highest level since data for the Lehman Brothers Eurasia Group Stability Index (LEGSI) began being collected in January 2000. The score dropped to 60.

The score decreased primarily due to the legal and political disputes concerning oil giant Yukos, several allegedly Chechen-sponsored terrorist bombings in Moscow, and the closure of independent television station TVS.

The LEGSI report notes that these events "demonstrated that, despite the economic boom times, politics in Russia is still risky business."

Of the 23 countries covered in the index, Russia took ninth place from the top in July.
