Gowlings International Inc. has appointed Magdalena Sekula as the head of its Moscow representative office. Sekula will be focusing on intellectual property matters.

A Canadian lawyer, Sekula has also worked in Moscow for Ernst & Young CIS Ltd. and as the region legal counsel for Russia, Ukraine and Belarus at the Coca-Cola Export Corp.


Mobile TeleSystems has replaced its Deutsche Telekom-appointed chief financial officer, Wim Van Bommel, with a Russian appointee, Nikolai Tsekhomsky. Tsekhomsky began working at MTS last year.

Ulf Backmeyer has also been

appointed to the newly created post of financial controller. He had previously worked for Deutsche Telekom Moscow as vice president for

finances and projects.


Pharmacy chain 36.6 has announced the appointment of George Chkareuli as chief financial officer.

Previously, Chkareuli was head of the financial consulting practice at IBS, CFO at Razgulyai-UkrRos Group and finance director at Mars CIS. Chkareuli has also worked for Renaissance Capital and for Tetra Pak Alfa Laval.

The company also announced that Victor Sachs, currently head of strategy and development, is leaving the company. Sachs will, however, remain on the board of directors of the chain.

White & Case

William Spiegelberger has joined the Moscow office of White & Case LLC as counsel and head of the Moscow office's growing disputes practice.

Spiegelberger specializes in international commercial arbitration and transnational litigation. His experience includes disputes relating to construction projects, foreign investments and forward and option contracts. Spiegelberger worked for White & Case in New York and Paris in 1994-97.


Sergei Kiryushin has been appointed deputy director general for information technology at Aeroflot.

SUAL International

Iosif Bakaleinik, formerly chief financial officer at TNK, has been appointed vice president for finance at Sual International. Bakaleinik will help the company tap international capital markets.

During his six years at TNK, Bakaleinik was a key player in putting together the company's $6.75 billion deal with BP.
