Dynamo Brings Zenit Down to Earth

Erik Korchagin scored a hat trick in just 11 minutes to lead Dynamo Moscow to a 7-1 rout of Zenit St. Petersburg in a Russian Premier League match on Saturday.

Serbian striker Ognen Koroman and Russian forward Dmitry Bulykin added two goals each for Dynamo, which also hammered last-placed Uralan Elista 5-1 last week.

Dynamo dominated the St. Petersburg side from the start, scoring three goals in just seven minutes midway through the first half, before Korchagin's second-half hat trick in the 46th, 50th and 57th minutes.

Bulykin, who is the league's leading goal scorer with six goals in eight matches, made it 7-0 in the 61st minute before Alexander Kerzhakov scored a consolation goal late in the game.

The win allowed Dynamo, on 16 points from eight matches, to move within three points of league leader CSKA Moscow, which was held to a 2-2 draw at Saturn Ramenskoye on Friday.

Also on Friday, defending champion Lokomotiv Moscow was beaten 3-0 by Kryla Sovietov Samara, its fifth defeat in eight matches, dropping it to 12th place on just seven points.

Spartak Moscow, which has won nine league titles since 1992 but finished third last year and has struggled this season, was to play Shinnik Yaroslavl on Sunday.
