Police: Woman Killed in Contract Hit

The Moscow city prosecutor's office said Thursday that the killing of legal consultant Irina Maximova was a contract hit connected with her work in an ownership dispute over a downtown supermarket.

Maximova, who also worked as a legal consultant at the European Medical Center, was shot three times in the head near the entrance of her Moscow apartment building on April 4. She died at the scene.

Maximova was acting on behalf of former employees of a supermarket near the Mayakovskaya metro, now named Azbuka Vkusa, were caught in a property dispute with the present owner, Moskovsky Komsomolts reported earlier this year.

Maximova was on her way to court for a hearing on the case the day she was killed.

Police arrested Dalimbek Suleimanov, 36, on Tuesday on charges of murder. Police have also arrested two other suspects in the case. All three are Chechen.
