The temperature will plummet to minus 20 degrees Celsius and the barometric pressure will soar as a cold front moves into Moscow over the weekend, weather forecasters said Thursday.

Streets and sidewalks will be covered in ice by Friday morning as the temperature slides from Thursday's high of 1 degree to a low of minus 20 degrees Sunday, according to news reports.

Weather forecasters said the barometric pressure will jump to a 760-mm mercury column sometime over the weekend, causing headaches among people sensitive to weather changes.

Those with high blood pressure should take medication and abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages, a Moscow doctor was quoted as saying by the Gazeta newspaper on Thursday.
