Rostelecom Nets $154M in 9 Months

State-controlled telecoms holding Rostelecom posted a 200 percent year-on-year rise in net profit to 4.9 billion rubles ($154.63 million) in the first nine months of 2002, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The results were calculated to Russian accounting standards.

Rostelecom's revenues in the period rose 6.2 percent year on year to 15.184 billion rubles, while costs fell 9.5 percent to 9.064 billion rubles.

Amortization fell 19.5 percent year on year to 3.718 billion rubles, sales profit rose 43 percent to 6.120 billion rubles and pretax profit soared more than 100 percent to 6.463 billion rubles.

Receivables fell 0.7 percent from the beginning of the year to 7.203 billion rubles as of Sept. 30, while long-term liabilities were down 13.6 percent to 8.069 billion rubles.

Earnings before income, tax, depreciation and amortization rose 10.6 percent year on year, Rostelecom said without providing an absolute figure.

The company's operating margin was at 40.31 percent in January- September, up from 29.95 percent in the same period of 2001.

Rostelecom said that its financial results in January-September included revenues from the sale of a 50 percent stake in Moscow's largest alternative fixed-line operator, Sovintel.
