Too Hard to Stay Hip? Check Out Music.Ru

Nirvana and Courtney Love are headed to court? Zdob Si Zdub is playing a gig in Hungary along with Run DMC and Placebo? Napster's been shut down?

It's a mad, mad world of music — and keeping up with what's happening could keep you in a state of dizziness.

But for those who need to stay plugged into what's going on in the kingdom of rock 'n' roll, Music.ru (www.music.ru) has come to the rescue.

The site can help you find out where all the stars are playing — and some smaller acts as well. It has information on all the big rock shows — and smaller gigs, too.

Missed a show? Don't worry, Music.ru will tell you what went on.

The site can even help you plan your weekend. If you don't know where to go, Music.ru has a few recommendations of places to check out in Moscow, including concerts, nightclubs and parties.

Click on the calendar to the right of the main page and find out who's playing where and at what time.

And it's not just the big names: Just about every club in town has its place in the listings.

If you want to find out more about your favorite band, have a look at the Dossier section, which offers an alphabetical list of everybody who's anybody in music.

Some of the links even offer lyrics for some of the band's more popular songs, and there are yet more links on the site for notes.

Stars that have been in the news lately — for better or worse — probably have a spot in the Hero of the Week section to the left of the main page.

By clicking on a group, you not only find out what it has been doing, you may learn a little bit of history as well.

The Conversation section offers more in-depth information on some selected artists. Some stars talk about their plans for the future, others dwell on the past.

Music.ru boasts a convenient search option that allows you to find any articles that appeared on the site recently on a given group or subject.

And there's a survey called Question of the Day, which on a recent visit to the site was: "Which foreign group's arrival do you consider to be an event?" followed by a list of recent concerts.

If you've got a word or two you'd like to say about one of those concerts — or albums or groups — feel free to click on any one of the many Opinion links and spout your wrath or praise. If you don't feel much like sharing, read what others think.

For those looking for advice on what discs to buy, the site has singled out a few new albums for review.

And if you've got dreams of rock stardom, the site offers links to online instrument stores — so can pick up that new guitar or synthesizer that could be your ticket to the big time.
