Draws at Top See Krylya Keep Lead Over Spartak

Krylya Sovietov Samara held on to the top spot in the Premier League on Sunday despite conceding a last-minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Alania Vladikavkaz.

Brazilian Paulo Emilio scored for the visitors to cancel out an 80th-minute penalty for Samara from Russian international Andrei Karayka.

Samara, on 34 points from 18 matches, maintained a one-point lead over defending champion Spartak Moscow, which dropped two valuable points with a 3-3 draw at Rotor Volgograd.

Spartak was 2-0 up before halftime thanks to goals from Yegor Titov and Vasily Baranov, but Valery Yesipov pulled one back for Rotor with a 48th-minute penalty.

Brazilian striker Luis Robson restored a two-goal cushion for Spartak a minute before 20-year-old striker Maxim Bondarenko, a second-half substitute, scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn Rotor a point.

After four consecutive defeats at the start of the season, CSKA Moscow extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 3-1 victory over city rival Torpedo to move into fifth place with 30 points.

Striker Spartak Gogniyev, who joined CSKA from city neighbor Dynamo earlier this month, sealed the win after coming off the bench with two goals in the last two minutes.

Zenit St. Petersburg climbed to third with 32 points thanks to a 2-2 draw at Saturn Ramenskoye, while Lokomotiv Moscow, last season's runner-up, dropped to fourth on 31 points following a shock 2-0 defeat at lowly Fakel Voronezh.
