Steven Berger has been named partner in the global capital markets group at PricewaterhouseCoopers Russia.

Berger will work closely with various regulatory agencies, in particular the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His list of clients includes leading telecommunications, manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities and media companies. Berger will also provide both buy-side and sell-side due diligence services.

Berger is a graduate of Brown University and holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

Berger is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Before relocating to Moscow, Berger was a senior manager with PwC’s Boston office.

Yelizaveta Filipova has been named partner in the financial services group at PricewaterhouseCoopers Russia.

Filipova graduated from the St. Petersburg University of Finance and Economics in 1987 with a degree in economics and mathematics. She earned a PhD in economics from the same university in 1992.

From 1991 to 1995, Filipova served as chief financial officer with the Russian subsidiary of Credit Lyonnais. She joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1995 as a manager. From 1996 to 1998, she worked as a senior manager in the financial services group at PwC in Moscow, followed by a secondment to the firm’s New York office in 1998 to 1999.

Since returning from the United States, Filipova has held the position of director of the financial services group at PwC Moscow.

Ernst & Young

Mark Jarvis has joined Ernst & Young as partner and managing director of the corporate finance department.

Jarvis worked in London for Moscow Narodny Bank and then on the Russian desk of Robert Fleming & Co., later managing Robert Fleming’s operation in Russia.

Following Fleming’s merger with Chase Manhattan Bank in 2000, Jarvis took on the additional role of chief operating officer of Chase Manhattan’s operations in Russia and Ukraine.

From 1993 to 2001 he led an office that focused on fund management, equities and corporate finance/capital markets.


Ilya Sherbovich has been appointed head of corporate finance at United Financial Group and will retain his position as vice chairman in charge of the investment-banking department.

Sherbovich has served as adviser to the Federal Securities Commission in the capital market surveillance unit as well as in the privatization unit of the International Finance Corp.

In 1995, Sherbovich joined UFG, and until July 2000 he supervised the structured-products department.

Sherbovich served as general director of UFG from June 2000 to April 2001.

Sherbovich was born in 1974 and graduated in 1995 with honors in Russian corporate economics from the Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics.
