Obukhov Appeal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an appeal by the top military prosecutor to reinstate the espionage conviction of a former Russian diplomat and author accused of spying for Britain.

Platon Obukhov was arrested by the Federal Security Service in April 1996 and was convicted last July in Moscow City Court and sentenced to 11 years.

The Supreme Court repealed the verdict in January and ordered a new trial with a new judge. An appeal on that decision was rejected Wednesday.
